NORTH CHARLESTON, SC – One woman died, and a police officer went to the hospital after two cars collided at an intersection in North Charleston on Tuesday, abc4 News reports.
Police say the accident happened around 5:05 p.m. at the intersection of Dorchester Road and Scarsdale Avenue.
A North Charleston police officer turned his lights and sirens on and headed west on Dorchester Road in response to a shooting on West Montague Avenue. The police cruiser collided with another vehicle as the female driver attempted to turn left from Scarsdale Avenue onto Dorchester Road.
The driver of the second vehicle died in the crash. The police officer, identified as Jeremy Kraft, was taken to a local hospital for injuries sustained in the wreck.
Police say that neither vehicle carried additional passengers. The collision remains under investigation with law enforcement.
