News: Motorcyclist killed in 2-vehicle crash in Irmo

IRMO, SC – The driver of a motorcycle died on Tuesday after colliding with another vehicle on a state road in Richland County, WLTX News 19 reports.

Police say the incident happened around 4 p.m. near the intersection of Kennerly Road, or State Road S-40-217, and Hopewell Church Road.

The motorcyclist collided with the rear of a 2008 pickup truck as both vehicles travelled south on Kennerly Road. The driver of the pickup truck had slowed down to turn left on Hopewell Church Road at the time of the accident.

The force of the collision caused the motorcycle to leave the roadway and crash into a utility pole. The motorcyclist died at the scene of the accident. Authorities have not yet released the name of the victim.

It is unclear at this time if anyone else sustained injuries in the accident, which remains under investigation.
