ABBEVILLE, SC – A 59-year-old man died Wednesday morning when his vehicle crashed along a highway in Abbeville, WYFF 4 reports.
Police say the incident happened just before 7:30 a.m. on Highway 72 West near Hutch Alley when the victim’s eastbound pickup truck crashed into the curb.
The collision caused the tires of the pickup to go flat, at which point the vehicle left the roadway, hit a tree, and partially overturned. The driver of the pickup truck died after he was thrown from the vehicle and became stuck beneath the truck.
Authorities identified the victim as Jefferson Arnold Moss of Abbeville. They believe Moss may have been distracted by his cell phone at the time of the accident,.
The crash remains under investigation.
