ORANGEBURG CO., SC – Lane closures slowed traffic after a vehicle caught fire Thursday morning on Interstate 26 in south Orangeburg County.

The State reports that the blaze developed around 8:20 a.m., at which point police blocked all lanes of I-26 eastbound near mile marker 158.

Officials encouraged drivers to avoid the area or to expect delays for at least five miles in the vicinity of the incident.

Authorities have not yet indicated what caused the fire, and it’s still unclear if anyone sustained injuries in the blaze. Our team will work to update the blog if additional details become available.
