On average, more than 34,000 people die each year in our country in traffic collisions involving a legally impaired driver, or a driver with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 or higher, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Has a drunk driver affected you or someone you know? How has it affected – or how could it affect – your own driving?

The attorneys of The Jeffcoat Firm invite you to share your experiences and thoughts on this important issue and compete for one of our two scholarship prizes worth a combined $1,500. We are proud to announce that we are now accepting entries from students nationwide for our annual Scholarship Essay & Video Competition.

Each winner will receive a check from The Jeffcoat Firm made out to the school which they will attend. The winners must use these funds to pay for education-related expenses. Winners will be solely responsible for any federal, state or local taxes which apply to the scholarship award.

To be eligible to compete in our law firm’s Scholarship Essay & Video Competition, you must be a student who is a U.S. resident or an international student who is studying at a U.S. school who is:

  • A high school junior or senior, or
  • A student currently enrolled in two-year or four-year college or university
  • A currently enrolled student in graduate school.

Applicants who are younger than age 18 must provide parental consent to enter. Employees of The Jeffcoat Firm, Consultwebs, Inc., and their immediate family members will not be eligible to enter this competition.


Your essay or video must address this topic:

Have you or someone you know been affected by drunk driving? In what ways has it made or would it make you a safer driver?


To enter our Scholarship Essay & Video Competition, The Jeffcoat Firm requires that you submit:

  • An essay of 600 words or less (in .doc or .docx format) or
  • A video of two minutes or shorter (in .avi or .mp4 format).

We will allow only one essay or video per student. The essay or video must cite all sources of information. It must also be an original work. Plagiarism will result in automatic disqualification.

In addition to your essay or video, you must also submit:

  • A copy of your school transcript or other proof of enrollment
  • A cover sheet that contains the following:
    – Your name, address and phone number
    – Name and address of your school
    – Your photograph (in .jpeg format)
    – A brief, 2-3 sentence bio that describes yourself
    – If you are younger than age 18, a signature of a parent or guardian

You must submit your complete entry by
December 7, 2018.

Our selection committee will select the scholarship winners. The committee’s decisions will be final.

We will announce our two scholarship winners on
January 11, 2019.

We will use the contact information submitted in the application to notify the winners. Our law firm will also announce the winners on our website.


When you submit your application to our Scholarship Essay & Video Competition, you will:

  • Acknowledge that The Jeffcoat Firm owns all rights to publish, distribute and promote your essay or video.
  • Grant The Jeffcoat Firm the right to use your name, biographical information and photo for marketing and other purposes.
  • Agree to indemnify and hold harmless The Jeffcoat Firm, Consultwebs, Inc., and its members, officers, directors, and employees against any and all liability and costs associated with the contest or the acceptance or use of prizes.
