News: 1 dead when SUV lands in Aiken Co. pond

AIKEN CO., SC – A 30-year-old man died after his SUV left the roadway and fell into a Saluda County pond near Graniteville on Sunday, WRDW reports.

The incident happened after 6:40 p.m. at the 1200 block of Ascauga Lake Road.

Police say the vehicle involved was a 2004 Toyota Sequoia. For reasons unknown, the SUV left the road, struck a fence, and landed in the pond.

The victim has been identified as Tyler D. Kent of Georgia. Bystanders at the scene extracted Kent from the vehicle and performed CPR, but he died at the scene.

Authorities also sent a team of divers to search the pond, but they are now certain that Kent was alone in the vehicle.

A full investigation of the incident is ongoing.
