COLLETON COUNTY, SC – Two drivers went to the hospital Sunday after a head-on collision involving two vehicles on a highway near Walterboro and Cottageville.
WCBD News 2 reports that the crash happened just after midnight on the Cottageville Highway. A northbound Ford pickup truck crossed the center line of the highway and crashed head-on into a southbound Nissan Maxima.
Fire rescue officials say the pickup truck overturned, and the Nissan ran into a ditch. The driver of the Nissan became entrapped in the vehicle.
Crews worked to remove the female driver from the Nissan. Medics then airlifted her with serious injuries to a trauma center in North Charleston.
The driver of the pickup truck suffered non-critical injuries, for which he was transported to Colleton County Medical Center.
A full investigation of the incident is underway.
