News: Fatal 1-car crash ends Spartanburg Co. police chase

SPARTANBURG, SC – One man died Wednesday when he crashed his car along a roadway in Spartanburg after fleeing police down Cannan Road, WYFF 4 reports.

Police say the crash happened around 4:18 p.m. on Cannan Road near Carolina Country Club Road when the driver left the roadway and collided with a tree. Authorities had tried to stop the driver near the intersection of Cannan Road and US-221, but he refused to pull over.

The driver, identified as Ernest Dwayne Miller, died early Thursday morning after spending several hours at an area hospital.

Law enforcement officials have not shared the initial reason for the police pursuit.

A full investigation is underway.
