News: 1 dead when truck hits moped near Chesnee

SPARTANBURG CO., SC – A moped passenger died on Wednesday after a pickup truck hit the vehicle from the rear on SC-11 in northeast Spartanburg County, WSPA 7 News reports.

Police say the crash happened at 5:40 a.m. near the intersection of SC-11 and Cantrell Road. Both the moped and a 2010 Toyota pickup truck were travelling north on SC-11 when the pickup truck struck the back of the moped. The impact caused the moped to fall in the roadway.

A passenger on the moped died at the scene of the crash, and the moped driver sustained injuries. Authorities have not released the name of the passenger, nor have they commented on the severity of the driver’s injuries.

An investigation is underway.
