News: Child killed in 2-vehicle collision near Richburg

CHESTER CO., SC – A 7-year-old child died Sunday evening after two vehicles collided on an interstate in east-central Chester County near Richburg, WBTV 3 reports.

Police say an intoxicated driver likely caused the incident. It happened around 5:22 p.m. when a Chevy van crashed into a Ford SUV on the northbound side of I-77 near mile marker 67.

The force of the crash caused both vehicles to travel off of the roadway. The SUV crashed into a tree, and the van struck a guardrail.

A 7-year-old passenger in the SUV died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. His parents and his four-year-old brother were transported to a local hospital with injuries.

The driver of the van, identified as 35-year-old Jason Connell Palmer, also went to the hospital with injuries. Police later arrested Palmer on a charge of felony DUI.
