Head-on Collision in Sumter
The most unfortunate accidents are those that result in fatalities. An accident on October 25 in Sumter provides a regrettable example. Two cars collided head-on while traveling on U.S. 378 East near East Brewington Road. The driver of one of the cars, a 73-year-old individual, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The accident is particularly frightening because it occurred on a road that has a divider between opposing lanes of traffic. In other words, one of the drivers somehow got onto the road, going in the wrong direction.
ATV Accident in Easley
One of the more unusual recent car accidents in South Carolina involves a car and an ATV. A 37-year-old man was driving his ATV on Old Vinland School Road when he attempted to turn onto Highway 183. Almost immediately, he was struck by an unknown driver in a Toyota Rav4, who promptly fled the scene after the collision.
While the driver of the Rav4 would go on to be charged with a DUI, the accident remains so unusual because of the fact that it even involved an ATV in the first place. Such vehicles are typically only driven off-road and are even prohibited on some roads because they are much smaller than other vehicles.
Tractor-Trailer Accident in Enoree
It’s no secret that pedestrians need to exercise caution when walking along a road at night, yet a recent truck accident certainly proves why. According to WYFF News 4, a big rig struck a pedestrian while traveling on State Highway 146 at roughly 4:30 a.m. on October 2. Given the time, it’s likely the driver may not have even seen the pedestrian.
Motorcycle Accident in Ladson
A fatal motorcycle accident occurred in Ladson back in September. A rider and a passenger were on College Park Road a little past 10 p.m. For some reason, the driver traveled off the road and struck a ditch. The motorcycle then continued until it hit a house. Though the driver was only injured, the passenger died during the accident.
While nighttime motorcycle accidents are common, they usually involve another vehicle. Police likely investigated the accident to determine whether the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Intersection Collision in Lexington
Intersections are some of the most dangerous parts of the road. Many accidents happen at or near them, especially when one of the drivers is distracted and not paying attention to traffic lights or signs.
An accident in Lexington on October 1 is an unfortunate example of such a phenomenon. It occurred at the intersection of Boiling Springs Road and Longview Street. A Chevy sedan traveling along Longview Street collided with a Chevy pickup traveling on Boiling Springs Road.
Unfortunately, the woman driving the sedan died in the accident. The other driver was injured and taken for treatment at a local hospital.
